The UK’s ETA is Here – What Grenadians Need to Know Right Now

Blog
UK Electronic Travel Authorisation

The United Kingdom’s new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system is now live and Grenadian travellers must take note. Whether you’re heading to London for a holiday, catching a connecting flight through Gatwick, or visiting family in Manchester, you’ll need an approved ETA before entering the UK.

What is the Electronic Travel Authorisation?

An ETA is a digital permission to travel – it is not a visa or a tax and does not permit entry into the UK – it authorises a person to travel to the UK.

Grenadians can still stay in the UK for up to 6 months but they must register and apply for an ETA before making their trip to the UK.

This process is mandatory and must be completed before travelling.

When Do You Need an Electronic Travel Authorisation?

If you’re travelling to the UK for tourism, business, medical treatment, short study or business arrangements or simply transiting through a UK airport,  you need an ETA. If your visit is under six months and doesn’t require a visa, you need an ETA.

To check your specific travel situation, the UK Government has created a dedicated digital guide:
Check if you need an ETA or visa

Key Details Every Grenadian Should Know

  • Cost: The ETA now costs £16
  • Validity: It is valid for two years or until your passport expires – whichever comes first
  • Passport-linked: Your ETA is tied to the passport you used to apply. If your passport expires or changes, your ETA becomes invalid
  • Multiple entries: You can travel to the UK multiple times during its validity period
  • Time to apply: Applications must be submitted at least 72 hours before departure
  • To apply you need a valid credit/debit card, your passport and a photo that can be shared digitally.

How to Apply – Safely and Securely

Applying for your ETA is easy and should be done through the official UK Government website at gov.uk/get-eta or via the UK ETA app available on Google Play and the Apple Store.

Do not use third-party websites. Only apply through the official channels to avoid scams or incorrect processing.

You’ll need to fill in basic personal details, answer some security questions, and submit a recent passport-style photo. Most applications are processed within three days, but it’s best to apply as early as possible.

Why It Matters for Grenadians

The introduction of the ETA marks a shift in how the UK handles short-term entry. While it doesn’t revoke visa-free privileges, it does require a digital checkpoint that must not be skipped. Failing to secure an ETA will mean being denied boarding or refused entry at the border.

The good news? The process is straightforward, affordable, and designed for repeat travellers.
