Intercol Championships -Athletes on the starting block at a middle distance race in Intercol 2024

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA –Grenada’s biggest school athletics event is back, and it’s set to be more exciting than ever! From April 8th to 10th, 2025, the 53rd Grenada Association of Principals of Secondary Schools Intercol Championships will ignite the Kirani James Athletics Stadium. Under the theme “Unleashing Potential, Defining the Future,” student-athletes from across the island will push their limits, chase records, and showcase the incredible talent that Grenada has to offer.

This year’s championships will feature 90 events – two more than last year, including the 400m sub-junior hurdles, ensuring even greater action on the track and field and offering young athletes another opportunity to demonstrate their skill and resilience.

For the first time in history, the entire event will be streamed live at no cost, thanks to a contribution of $100,000 from the Investment Migration Agency Grenada (IMA), which manages Grenada’s Citizenship by Investment Programme. This initiative allows fans worldwide to experience the championships in real time.

The success of the Intercol Championships wouldn’t be possible without strong financial backing. The Government of Grenada, through the National Lotteries Authority, is the main sponsor for this year’s championship, investing a substantial $300,000 into the event. This funding not only fuels the competition but also provides prize money for the top five schools, further motivating young athletes to bring their A-game.

Beyond government support, private sponsors have contributed an additional $30,000 to the event. Classic Lighting Caribbean will return as the sponsor of the highly anticipated march past – a vibrant parade where school groups march in formation. In addition to this, separate financial aid is being provided to schools by other donors to help offset preparation and participation

costs, ensuring that every young athlete has the opportunity to compete.

For three action-packed days, the stadium will come alive with high-energy performances across a variety of disciplines. From the 100m and 200m sprints to the endurance of the 400m, hurdles, long jump, high jump, javelin, and discus, every event will test the mettle of Grenada’s finest athletes.

The championships also maintains its commitment to inclusivity by featuring events for students with disabilities, reinforcing the belief that sports are for everyone. To optimise performance and athlete wellbeing, daily events will kick off at 9:00 AM and wrap up between 5:30 and 6:00 PM, ensuring a smooth schedule that prioritises both competition and safety.

The Intercol Championships are more than just a sporting event-they are a stepping stone for young athletes to reach new heights. Grenada’s finest athletes, including Olympic medalists Kirani James, Anderson Peters, and Lindon Victor, were discovered during these highly anticipated games.

Individuals wishing to view the games can do so via the Intercol Youtube Channel and the T&R Channel.
